Friday Wrap up, or what we were supposed to do..

November 7, 2008

and what we did instead ;)

Danielle had her last cooking and art class on Tuesday. They made jello jigglers and frito boats, yeah, real healthy, LOL!. I had a meeting with her teacher, to go over the last periods work.  It went well, and her teacher is happy with her progress. We really need to start working harder on her reading and math. She loves working on science and social studies, but math we are butting heads on a daily basis. I need to find some less stressful ways to get her to see the patterns in numbers, KWIM?

Other then taking her with me to vote, and dealing with the ensuing tantrum, we really had a causal week. Due to illness, Danielle and I are both layed up with the flu. I sound like Sylvia Browne, and it’s not condusive to a good days school work.

I did get all the new books that we got from her teacher filed away and all the books that need to go back to teacher set aside, so that’s at least helpful. And the lesson plans for next week are ready and waiting.

Let’s hope we can all breath, talk and swallow by Monday ;)

Check out the new group in town ;)

I’d like to give credit to the author of this wonderful song ;) http://nataliesnexus.blogspot.com/  You ROCK!

Well, the first full week of school is under our belt..

August 22, 2008

(not sure what that phrase actually means, might have to research that, LOL!!) And things went as well as can be expected. There was much whining, tantrums, eye rolling and general dissent among the troops, but mostly we got it done. Danielle fights tooth and nail against school in general, doesn’t understand why she has to do it, thinks it’s all an evil plot on my behalf to make her life miserable. I try to explain to her that ALL children go to school, but she’s not buying it.

Today we had an impromptu unit study on dinosaurs, thanks to Tina and her new contest at Fresno Family to win tickets to Walking with Dinosaur. I printed off her clues (and a list of the dinosaurs that could be possible answers) and we pulled out all our dinosaur books. The favorite was the Research Guide for Dinosaurs before Dark by Mary Pope Osborne! We had fun talking about herbivore vs carnivore, guessing which ones would eat brother and such. We guessed how many daddys or sisters tall each one was. We sang with Laurie Berkner while drawing dinosaur pictures :) (Jack drew cows, LOL!!)

Why can’t I have students like this??
